Course Description: The purpose of ECST 2740 is to introduce the student to basic methods of presenting and analyzing data. Topics to be covered include Descriptive Statistics, Probability Distributions, Sampling Distributions, and Confidence Intervals.
Course Objectives: The primary objective of the class is to teach students basic statistical terminology and methods that can be used to summarize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data through graphical, descriptive, and inferential statistical techniques. A secondary objective is to teach students how to conduct and interpret different statistical tests.
Dates in which class will be cancelled: Class will not meet on Thursday, June 6 or on Tuesday, July 29 (the last day of class) for unavoidable reasons. Therefore, the final for this class will come on Thursday, July 24. If you cannot make that final date, you must take the final exam before the 24th.
Prerequisites: IS 2070 or equivalent
Text: Statistics for Business and Economics, 10th edition, by Anderson, D.R., D.J. Sweeney, and T.A. Williams (Thomson South-Western, Mason, OH)
Calculator: The School of Business Curriculum Committee requires that the Texas Instrument BA II Plus Professional calculator be used in this class, as this calculator will also be used in the upper-level Finance courses.

Exam Policy: If you miss an exam for an undocumented reason, it will be counted as a zero. If you miss either of the mid-term exams for a documented reason, the point value of your subsequent exam will double. In other words, make-up exams are not available for mid-terms. If you miss the final exam for a documented reason, you will receive an incomplete and will be able to take a make-up exam early in the subsequent semester.
